With the windows nearly done and the upper trim work repaired and painted, it was time to turn our attention to our porches.  No amount of paint on windows and trim would overcome the ugly that had settled upon our porches.

We started with the back porch, which is actually the most ornate.  While the trim is original, at some point full posts were replaced with brick piers and the floor became a poured concrete slab on a brick foundation.

Hard to see under all the vegetation, but you can certainly get a sense of the sagging trim.

The decorative trim was removed and we began to dismantle the ceiling and structural pieces--much to the dismay of our resident squirrel!  The rot at the northwest corner of the roof had provided the perfect opening and our furry friend had made quite a nice home for himself.

Here Rob has the trim replaced and temporary posts support the roof.

Sela supervises the porch work!

While Rob was busy with important things like structure and stability, I was doing my usual fooling around with brushes and color!

We opted for the traditional sky blue ceiling that the Victorians favored.

So many spindles to strip and paint!

Stripping the fretwork was no easy task either, but the finished product is well worth the effort.

The cherry on the sundae?  A new slate roof at the direction of Wayne Moore and his crew!
